Grandma Taylor's 90th Birthday Party

Grandma Taylor turned 90 this summer and there was a big family get together planned to celebrate.  We didn't initially think we could make it to California to attend, but at the last minute decided to make it happen.  Tim & Sue and all of Andy's siblings were going, so of course we didn't want to be the only one's left out!  It was a QUICK trip, but we packed in as much fun as we could.

We drove to Salt Lake Thursday night after Andy got off work, stayed in a hotel near the airport (meaning that since all of us were in one room we got virtually no sleep), got up early Friday morning and headed to the airport.  It was a crowded airplane, and we only bought tickets for 3 of us, so Colton & Brooke were on our laps.  Overall the kids traveled pretty well, but we sure were glad when we finally landed in Orange County.  After renting a minivan, we headed through the traffic to meet up with the family at Knott's Berry Farm.  Don't ask me how I ever agreed to that.  Just a reminder:  I hate the heat, I hate crowds, I hate any sort of roller coaster rides and amusement parks, and I have 3 children under the age of 4.  Combine all of those factors and you can probably imagine that hanging out at a crowded amusement park in the Southern California heat was not my idea of a fun day.  Memorable, yes.  But fun, not so much.  Let's just say I won't be doing that again anytime soon.  At least not until my kids are older.  Much older.
The boys had as much fun watching planes at the airport as anything!
After a better night's sleep (even sleeping in Saturday morning!), we headed out to Corona del Mar beach.  The boys had a ball!  They couldn't get enough of the sand, and Andy (yes, he's as bad as the boys) couldn't get enough of the body surfing.  It was a beautiful day and a beautiful beach.   It got really crowded by mid-day, but we were there early enough to enjoy as much sun as we could handle before things got too crazy.

After a little R&R at the hotel, we got cleaned up and headed to Uncle Dennis & Aunt Margene's house for the birthday celebration.  In almost 10 years of marriage, the only family members on Tim's side of the family I've met are Grandma Taylor, and Uncle Dennis & Aunt Margene.  Grandma had seen Ryan before, but had never met Colton or Brooke.  So we had lots of Uncles, Aunts & Cousins to meet for the first time.  We spent the afternoon & evening getting to know everyone, and had a yummy bbq with birthday cake and ice cream.  Afterwards, Grandma's 4 boys (Steven, Terry, Dennis & Tim) shared memories and stories about her that were so fun to hear.  We presented Grandma with a book that had pictures and updates of all of her descendents.  It was a great evening celebrating Grandma's birthday and getting to know so many family member I'd never even met before.
