June 2010 Activities

This summer has been a whirlwind already - with much more fun on the way! A couple of months ago my hard drive crashed, so I've gotten behind in my blog posts. Between that and teaching summer school, I have some catching up to do! Here's a little bit about what we've been up to so far:

Girls Weekend at the Sunday Cabin

The first weekend of June, Andy had a basketball camp in Evanston, so Ryan and I headed down to Utah to spend the weekend with all the Sunday girls. We spent the afternoon at lunch and shopping in Park City, then headed up to the cabin for the evening. We spent that night and the next day playing games, watching movies, eating good food, and just having fun. Thanks girls!

Taylor Family Vacation at Zion Ponderosa Ranch

After Andy spent the first 2 weeks in June at basketball camps, we were able to make it down to Southern Utah to spend some time with his family. We started off the weekend attending Noah's baby blessing (Jeff & Melenie's little boy) and then the family all headed to the Zion Ponderosa Ranch, just outside Zion National Park. We all stayed in one large house, and we had a great time just being together. There was lots of good food, a talent show, golfing, skeet shooting, swimming, a rock climbing wall, a zip line, miniature golf, four-wheeling, bicycle rides, spa treatments, playing games, a family picture, and more. Needless to say, we didn't run out of things to do or people to do them with!







After leaving the Ranch, Andy, Tige, Clark & Tim had the chance to hike "the Subway" - one of the most premier hikes in all of Utah. It even requires a reservation and a permit to hike it - quite an experience for the boys!





After 8 miles through narrows, water, rappelling, and climbing, Andy was glad to meet up with us at the Taylor Cabin for some R&R.

Lewis & Shoshone Lakes - Yellowstone National Park

To finish out the month of June, Andy spent a couple of days fishing in Yellowstone National Park. Not just any fishing, mind you. He and several friends loaded all of their gear (camping, cooking, fishing, food, etc.) into canoes and made their way across Lewis Lake, fishing along the way. They then had to canoe upstream through a canal to get to Shoshone Lake. Near the end of the river, they actually got out of the canoe and pulled the canoes upstream from the shore. After arriving at Shoshone, they made camp on the beach where they stayed for a couple more days, fishing from sun-up to sun-down. A lot of work, and a lot of fishing, and a lot of fun!












As soon as Andy got back from his fishing trip, we headed down to Utah so he could have surgery on his nose. Ever since breaking it when he was young, he has had a deviated septum, which basically means that 90% of his right nostril was blocked off making it difficult to breathe. More than that though, he was constantly fighting colds and sinus infections. So, after much deliberation, he agreed to have the surgery done. We've been resting and relaxing at home ever since - he's recovered nicely, and we've been able to get some things done here! Our yard is finally finished, blinds installed in the basement, and asphalt is on the way for the driveway. Phew! One month of summer already gone...only 2 to go!
